Home of the popular “Welcome to Moe’s!” greeting and pop-culture inspired menu and atmosphere, Moe’s Southwest Grill is a fun and engaging fast-casual concept serving a wide variety of fresh, made-to-order southwest fare. The HistoryThe first Moe’s restaurant opened in Atlanta, GA on December 1, 2000, and offered burritos, tacos, quesadillas, nachos, salads and fajitas. Guests could choose from over 25 fresh ingredients including grilled chicken, steak or tofu. There were meals just for kids, beverages just for adults, and free chips and salsa for all guests to enjoy with every meal. To demonstrate their commitment to freshness, Moe’s has never used freezers, microwaves, animal fat, lard, or MSG. Over the years, Moe’s has added ground beef, pulled pork, bacon and Junior burritos to the menu and has featured popular limited time offers like the Chicken Club Quesadilla and Phil E. Burrito. The FoodFood quality, safety and customer service are no joke, but aside from that, Moe’s tries not to take itself too seriously. For fun, the folks at Moe’s gave each menu item a unique name like The Funk Meister taco, Homewrecker burrito, Billy Barou nachos, to name a few, just to keep things interesting. And the music at Moe’s is also a good conversation starter. If you listen closely to the tunes playing at any Moe’s restaurant, you’ll notice all of the songs are performed by dead musicians. Songs from Barry White, Johnny Cash, and most recently, Michael Jackson, have been added to the original play list to honor the sweet sounds of the artists who left us too soon. The BusinessIn August 2007, Moe’s Southwest Grill joined FOCUS Brands Inc. Atlanta-based FOCUS Brands is the franchisor and operator of over 2,200 Carvel®, Cinnabon®, Schlotzsky’s®, Moe’s Southwest Grill® locations and Seattle’s Best Coffee® on certain military bases and in international markets. |

Moe’s Journey toward Sustainability
We at Moe’s believe in doing our part to preserve our future by making sustainable choices. While we know we can always do more, we are committed to finding green alternatives in all areas of our business. Recognizing that this transformation is not going to happen over night, we want to include you in our journey as we stride toward sustainability one step at a time. Here we’ll celebrate successes big and small; after all, every step counts.
The Team that Dreams Green
It’s not enough to just want to become green. Time, people and passion must work together to change the way we live, think and conduct business at Moe’s. That is why we have formed an internal team dedicated to learning more about sustainable best practices.
We’ve identified several areas of focus and have assigned a dedicated Moe’s team member to each.
Regional Vice President of Operations Scott Shotter is learning more about energy, water and waste. Director of Supply Chain Kevin Vandiver is focused on supply chain, packaging and non-food sourcing. Director of Research and Development Dan Barash is working on food sourcing and health and nutrition. Restaurant Designer Katria Montepare is leading the efforts surrounding new construction, and Public Relations Manager Lauren Barash is responsible for networking and outreach.
This team has been assembled to lead and inspire sustainable initiatives for Moe’s future and for the future of its employees and guests.
Welcome to Moe’s Delicious and Nutritious Menu
Sustainability and nutrition go hand-in-hand at Moe’s. We see feeding our bodies the nutrients it needs to live a long and healthy life as an important part of leading a sustainable lifestyle. That is why Moe’s prepares each meal fresh to order using only the best ingredients. All of Moe’s ingredients are free of transfat and MSG, and none of Moe’s kitchens feature microwaves or freezers. Knowing that reducing meat consumption by only 10 percent can have a significant impact on a person’s carbon foot print, Moe’s offers a variety of vegetarian options. Any item on the Moe’s menu that features meat can be substituted for marinated grilled tofu. In 2008, Moe’s won a Proggy Award for Best Vegetarian Mexican Restaurant.
Moe’s takes the LEED
In April 2009 franchisees Sueayn and Philip Wood registered for the LEED certification program with the intent to open this Fall as the first LEED certified location in the Moe’s chain and in the state of Vermont. To announce the launch of this exciting undertaking, Moe’s hosted a ground breaking event to engage the community in their efforts on June 24. Over the next few months we will remain fully engaged with our franchise partners in Vermont to embrace opportunities and overcome challenges in this great journey toward going Green.
On October 15 Moe’s Southwest Grill celebrated the opening of the chain’s first green restaurant in Williston, VT. Two years ago Franchise Partners Sueayn and Philip Wood along with the Moe’s team set out to make the Williston Moe’s the first LEED certified restaurant in the chain and in the state of Vermont. Their hope is to earn Silver Certification in part by reducing energy consumption by 22 percent in the coming months.
